An Open Letter To Governor Huckabee

December 23, 2007 | |

Dear Governor Huckabee,

I read an article this afternoon on RedState about your interview today on Face The Nation. I was not able to see the interview myself because I attend church at this time every week. I must tell you I’m greatly disturbed by something you said in this interview:

I am a Republican, and I’m out to change the Republican Party. It needs changing. It needs to be inclusive of all of those people across America for whom this Party should stand. And it’s not just the people on Wall Street, it’s the people on Main Street.

You then further stated:

The Republicans are not just a group of people who sit at the top, they’re people who sit around at the kitchen table and worry how they’re going to pay their rent.

Governor Huckabee, there’s something I’m going to tell you that may come as a bit of a shock, because I’ve looked at your positions and looked at your past performance as the Governor of Arkansas:

Republicans care about the working class and poor.

Not only do we care about the middle class and poor, we care more than the liberals do. Much more. We believe in creating opportunity and removing governmental barriers to financial success. We believe that giving someone a permanent handout makes takes away the most important thing everyone has. The human spirit. We believe families should be able to pass their success down to their children without having pay the government.

Republicans also believe that each person should help the others in need. We do this individually and through our church or other local organization. We believe that helping those in our community makes us a better community. You see, saving the earth is an easy thing to get behind. There’s no personal responsibility there. Helping out individuals that we can get to know makes us better people and brings us all closer together. This is so much better than a check in the mail from the government.

Governor Huckabee, we’ve come to expect this sort of thing from the mainstream media and the liberal politicians. They constantly misrepresent our intentions because it suits their agenda and purpose. It pains me to hear this coming from one of our own. It also sets us back every time this happens because our opponents love nothing more than using the words of one of our own against us.

Governor Huckabee, there’s one more thing I need to tell you. The Republican Party does not need changing. We’re already the Party for all the people. There’s another party that is interested in class warfare. It’s called the Democrat Party. We don’t want to be like them. We don’t need to be like them.

Respectfully,

Randy Ketner
