Sending a Message to John McCain
April 26, 2008 | Tagged 2008, bumper sticker, campaign, conservative, john mccain, libertarian, maverick, president |
One of the things that has come out loud and clear during this Republican Primary is the amount of discontent people have with our nominee. This is true in both conservative and liberterian circles. Having no clear front runner this time, the different factions engaged in endless knife fights so no one really rose to the top. Compromise was thrown out, many became single-issue voters and John McCain came through as the winner. A fitting end for a decorated naval officer from a family of military men.
Conservatves such as myself have been left concerned over the last few months that McCain would continue his Maverick personality as President. He could destroy the economy with his support of cap-n-trade to fight a non-existent Global Warming threat. He could continue to destroy our right to free-speech with more campaign finance reform. He could destroy our strong position on law-and-order by allowing 20 million illegal aliens to become citizens while others wait in line following the rules.
David Hinz posted a blog at RedState today with the following suggestion:
I propose that each and every Conservative demonstrate his or her support for Senator McCain for President by purchasing a “McCain for President,” bumper sticker, or better still, two. Then we should all affix those bumper stickers upside down — as a clear message to the senator. As a former Navy flier, Sen McCain will understand that message only too well. As explained below, displaying an ensign or the American flag upside down is a message of danger. It means, “…a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.”
H/T to r2streu for the image.
As a former Fredhead, I have to say I like this. While still supporting McCain for President (the alternatives are too awful to even think about), it sends a clear message that we will be watching, and we will do whatever we can to keep him from throwing in with the liberals.
I’m off to go order my bumper sticker. It’ll balance nicely on the back of my SUV opposite the FredThompson2008 sticker, which is on the right side of the SUV, of course.
You can purchase yours here.

I think it’s important to consider everything when supporting a President. Barack Obama is so bad on this issue, that he will set back the pro-life movement 30 years if he’s elected. It’s not worth losing everything we’ve gained over this time to throw it away over a “protest vote”. The VP doesn’t make policy, so I don’t see it as a huge issue. There are cabinet positions that are more important that VP. McCain has already selected Fred Thompson to vet his SCOTUS selections. This gives me more than enough confidence to vote for McCain regardless of his VP selection.
Keep going. Churchill put it well:
“Wars are not won by evacuations”.
