University of Colorado - Denver graduate student Page Penk has gained approval to gather signatures for a ballot initiative, according to Face The State.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Colorado: Shall there be a sex strike by the women only, January 1st, 2009, for one day in length, in support of the wife’s and parents of U.S. combat troops receiving pay for support services rendered to the military, through an amendment to the Colorado Constitution?

The Legislative Council Staff and Office of Legislative Legal Services has a few issues with the language of the proposed initiative, not the least of which is spelling (wife’s).

One would think that a graduate student of the largest state University in Colorado would grasp the concept of simple spelling and grammar. It would appear that Mr. Penk was busy protesting something the day those subjects were taught.

With no opposition present, Mr. Penk’s proposed initiative (with typos intact) was approved. He is now free to collect the 76,000 signatures necessary to get it on the ballot.

Penk’s concern is that opposition to the war isn’t getting enough coverage. In an interview with Face The State, he had this to say,

The war is underground. It’s secret. It’s not affecting the middle class. It’s not being covered by the media. I feel like the war is taboo to talk about.

It still remains unclear from under exactly which rock Mr. Penk recently crawled out.
